Part of the post that I had prewritten the other night had been about the people at work and their reactions to Obama being elected, which was overwhelmingly... well, I'm sure you can imagine what it was. The day after the election was very hard for me - I'm a white woman working in a black city, more or less involved with policing people involved in drug-related crime. I'll paraphrase some of what I wrote so that you'll understand what I'm talking about...
"I'm already hearing the people at work referring to it as 'The Black House'. For some reason that offends me very deeply. It's not that I object to the term itself, because black people have the absolute right to feel very proud of this accomplishment - it is history-making and in the end, vindication. But those same people are forgetting that a lot of white people - 49% of white people, to be exact - voted for Obama, too. If it weren't for all of us coming together - black, white, old, young, Obama wouldn't be in office to begin with. Don't all of us count? I'm seriously starting to wonder."
Things have 'calmed down' at work since I wrote that - people aren't yelling "OH-BAH-MAH" at the tops of their lungs anymore, no one's saying 'The Black House' anymore - I think it's sunk in that Obama hasn't made drugs legal and therefore they're going to report next Thursday just like always, heh.
Anyway, on to other topics. I'm feeling a little better this morning, which is a good thing, but then I've taken my meds, heh. I've started to make some changes to the blog again as of late - I'm thinking about packing up shop and going over to Wordpress. Not because I don't like Blogger, mind, I do - but the blog itself has turned into something that I think I'd like to have a little more control over. The theme is nice... but it's kind of, I don't know, restrictive. I have HTML skills, as 'limited' as they might be, and I'd like to maybe work on the backgrounds and design for myself. I've taken off the Obama support sign now that the election's over, I've added a couple of other things. I'd like to make this look a little better, that's all. Any ideas from the masses? (Rest assured, this is the one time I'm going to ask for help, so if you have opinions, state 'em now, heh.)
I've noticed that a lot of folks are hitting this blog from far-off places - France, Spain, Germany. Wilkommen, hola, bonjour and all of that. Don't be afraid to say anything here, folks, please do comment if you have comments. I enjoy hearing feedback from people, whether good or not. 'course, if it's bad, I'll be likely to stalk your blog and say something nasty back, heh, but either way, take the risk. I'm not hard to get along with.
(clapping hands over my friends' mouths to keep them from saying anything, heh)
'kay, so I'm going to leave you now with a lovely clip from Soul Train - a classic ST line from 1978. Hard to believe this was thirty years ago!!!! The track is Roy Ayers' "Freaky Deaky" - fucking hot, hot, hot!
Enjoy!

I'm actually looking into textpattern.com right now. It is another platform for blog/content managing and it seems pretty powerful and customizable. You have to have your own hosting but I can help you with that if you want. It is a little harder to learn than wordpress but gives you a hell of a lot of freedoms. I will probably use it to power my portfolio website.
Wordpress is probably a little easier to get up and running and has a large support community if you ever have a question or need help. And they have a lot free themes and extra stuff for it out there, so wordpress might actually be pretty good for your needs. If you decide to go with wordpress but don't want their occasional ads in your blog, I can set up wordpress on my host for you.
rofl. When you'd told me that you'd replied, I thought for sure you were going to address the Obama portion of it. :p
I'd like to look into it, yes. The mordacious.org domain is mine, so it's just a matter of hosting it somewhere. I'll definitely investigate it, as I don't want to really stay here and I don't want to go back to LiveJournal... ughughugh.
