Experimentation and research.

So I have a 'free' day today - a very rare thing for me, unfortunately - but I'm stuck down here at my mother's house, sigh. I can't leave here until Thursday. If I were home I'd be doing crafty shit or maybe cleaning, but since I'm not... I decided to take a look around as far as maybe moving/improving the blog, etc. So I checked out Wordpress.

Wordpress is very nice, but there are a couple of things that I just don't like about it. For one thing, you have to pay to get your domain mapped over there, to the tune of 10 dollars a year. Okay, so that doesn't seem like very much money - but I don't pay anything of the kind where I am right now. That doesn't seem right to me. And I'm not just giving up the domain name - I paid to have it, so I'm going to use it. But what I really dislike is Wordpress's occasional hair up their ass to put "Google targeted ads" onto free blogs - "every now and then", so they say. Uh, no. The Internet has advertising everyfuckingwhere, you can't get away from it, and I'd like to think that the one place that people don't have to get hassled with it is my blog. I have to pay 30 dollars a year to get rid of it? Add insult to injury - fuck, no, that's my response. Again, I have nothing of the kind here - the closest thing is a small bar at the top of the blog inviting people to move on to other blogs, which is peachy-fine with me.

So, in order for me to go to Wordpress and get exactly what I'm getting here, I have to shell out about 40 dollars a year, or basically 3.25 a month or so. Again, a nominal amount of money, but...

Wordpress = 3.25 a month vs. Blogger = 0.00 a month

Sort of decides it for me, doesn't it. The only thing that I can see is that Wordpress itself has the more "esoteric" name, and you know how I feel about that shit - I could care less what sounds better when it comes to money out of my pocket.

I'm looking into other places, though, such as Typepad, etc. I don't mind some technical challenges. Has anyone got any more ideas? Someone wrote in about something called Textpattern, I'd like to know more about that as well. Comment if you have ideas. (But keep the idea of LiveJournal to yourselves, if you don't mind, heh.)

Also... I discovered something on YouTube this morning that just made me die laughing. Dustfilms has produced "literal videos" of several popular songs - basically the song is sung matching the action in the video. It's fucking hilarious. Enjoy their version of "Under The Bridge", and make sure to check them out for the others. I'm still laughing.
