1.) James Brown - Living In America
The Godfather of Soul, the legend. A list of American-themed songs wouldn't be complete without him. Hah.... HEEEEEY!
2.) Don McLean - American Pie
The original song, the one that started it all. I did not and will not even admit that the remake exists. Madonna should be absolutely ashamed of herself for even deigning to touch such a classic.
That truly was "the day the music died".
3.) Patrick Juvet - I Love America (12" Version)
This song isn't well known outside of disco/house circles, but it's absolutely amazing. It's 14 minutes of experimentation and sound all backed by one of the hottest beats I've ever heard. Absolutely delicious.
4.) The Crystal Method - The American Way
This is a funky little breakbeat tune that just sort of... hypnotizes. If you don't like techno or similar genres, you won't like this, but ... for those that do, this is a great lil' dance number. Hot, hot, hot. :D
5.) Crack The Sky - All-American Boy
This band is more of a local phenomenon, but I can't imagine any American-themed list without Crack The Sky's track about a guy lamenting about his girlfriend's parents and how they want a clean-cut "American kid" for their daughter. Playful and at the same time a good hard rock track. Nice!

We matched on Living in America but I can't believe I forgot American Pie! Also can't believe Madonna tried to remake it. Happy 4th.
I had the Don McLean song on my list. I do have one country song on mine but its Dolly..and she's one of my country exception artists!
