Summer of '78 - Flashback!

I was only six years old at the time this was released, but I remember it very well. I used to go upstairs to Miss Brenda's house and play with my friend Melinda (who was incidentally my first childhood friend that I can remember, and who was also incidentally very much black), and they'd have on Soul Train, so I was exposed to a lot of soul and R&B, and consequently disco.

I often watch Soul Train on the weekends. They don't really make new episodes anymore (it's just not the same without Don Cornelius, I'm sorry), so they're doing "retrospectives", you know - "the best of Soul Train". Well, this song turned up on ST and I was like, flipping out... "OHMIGAWD I REMEMBER THAT". :D

There's no real 'video' here - it's just the album cover and the song. But have a listen anyway. If you loved disco, you'll love this. Even if you didn't, you have to give it to Cheryl Lynn - she was sadly, sadly underrated as a performer.

Enjoy.

P.S. It says "Got To Be Real" - while that's her biggest hit, that's not what the song is, apparently that's what the album is also called. This is a forgotten little spinner called "Star Love" - and I prefer this to the hit. Always have. It starts off a little slow, but it picks up incredible speed. :D
